Ivan’s Locost Build Diary No 2

Hi All

Cutting Tubes LA & LB:-

Make a L shaped jig of  25 X 25 RHT (Rectangular hollow tube) 76 X 280 mm long (inside lengths of L)

Set cut off saw to 26.5 degrees to left and place jig as per photo. Place steel on top (a clamp is needed on the short leg of the L – not shown in photo) and make first cut for LA – repeat for LB.

Measure gap in chassis where LA and LB belong and mark off on tubes.

Set cut off saw to 26.5 degrees to right – put LA on jig, double check orientation and length and cut – repeat with LB.

Tack weld into chassis – don’t weld in permanently until you have jigged in your A-Arm suspension brackets as they will almost certainly need adjusting.

This worked well for me and the tubes needed no fettling to make them fit.
